INFERIOR ALVEOLAR NERVE DEFICIT AFTER REMOVAL OF LOWER THIRD MOLARS-FREQUENCY AND FACTORS AFFECTING NERVE DAMAGE IN PROSPECTIVE CLINICAL STUDY OF 1487 EXTRACTIONS IN 1185 PATIENTS

نویسندگان

چکیده

Objective:
To determine the Frequency of inferior alveolar nerve injury and to assess relationship deficit with contributory risk factors like causes removal, patient’s age, anesthetic modality.
 Materials Methods:
All procedures were carried out in Maroof International Hospital from January 2016 August 2020. About 1185 consecutive patients included study who treated over a period 5 years. A total 1487 surgical extractions performed. Surgery was done either under local anesthesia (72.1%) or IV sedation (27.9%). performed by same single senior consultant two nurses. Follow up at one, three, six weeks months.
 Results:
Eight cases (0.53%) had temporary which settled within weeks. No permanent neurological damage observed. Cases pericoronitis significantly associated postoperative (p<0.001). Age, gender, modality not related injury.
 Conclusion:
Patients preoperative pathology have more chances after removal. Preoperative counseling about possible shall be done.

Spatial Relationship between Mandibular Third Molars and Inferior Alveolar Nerve using a Volume Rendering Software

Precise localization of the third molars in relation to the inferior alveolar nerve canal is critical from a clinical point of view and strongly affects the surgical treatment outcome. Recently, by using three-dimensional modeling software, the relationship of third molar root apices and inferior alveolar nerve canal can be better understood. In this study, the spatial relationship of two surgi...

Staged removal of horizontally impacted third molars to reduce risk of inferior alveolar nerve injury.

Damage to the inferior alveolar nerve (IAN) during third molar extraction is a major concern for patients and clinicians. A wide range of the incidence of temporary and permanent neurologic disturbances of the IAN as a consequence of mandibular impacted third molar extraction has been reported in the literature. The incidence of IAN injury reported in the literature ranges from 1.3% to 5.3%. Th...

Inferior alveolar nerve damage following removal of mandibular third molar teeth. A prospective study using panoramic radiography.

Permanent alteration of sensation in the lip after the removal of mandibular third molar teeth is an unusual but important complication. Studies have been performed to assess the risk of nerve damage but most of these have been retrospective and poorly controlled. This prospective trial predicted the outcome of altered sensation prior to surgery based on assessment of a panoramic radiograph and...

Onset and duration of 2% lidocaine as inferior alveolar nerve block versus buccal/lingual infiltration of 4% articaine in mandibular second molars: Clinical trial study

BACKGROUND AND AIM: The effectiveness of buccal or lingual (B/L) infiltration of 4% articaine as supplemental injection for pulp anesthesia of mandibular teeth was confirmed in previous studies. However, this study was aimed to compare the effectiveness of 2% lidocaine as inferior alveolar nerve block (IANB) versus B/L infiltration of 4% articaine for pulp anesthesia, as primary injection in ma...
